who is the daytona beach sail and power squadron

The Daytona Beach Sail and Power Squadron serves the Daytona Beach/Ponce Inlet Florida Area. We are one of of seven squadrons making up the United States Power Squadrons® District 23 (see map). The Squadrons are a non-profit, 501(c)(3) educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable by teaching classes in seamanship, navigation and related subjects. Our members are boating families who contribute to their communities by promoting safe boating through education.

We enjoy participating with our fellow members on the water and in the classroom. Each squadron's activities involve the three primary objectives of USPS: community service, continuing education, and enjoying the friendship and camaraderie of our fellow members.

The Daytona Beach Sail and Power Squadron offers boating safety courses on a regular basis to boaters in our communities. We also offer new programs targeted to a range of boaters and types of boating. The hallmark of this concept is the Seminar Series. These short seminars are targeted to specific topics and needs, and include valuable take-away guides. Each seminar provides credits toward the Boat Operator Certification program, and credit toward elective courses. These courses are open to the public and there is no age limit for participants. Our members also help the National Ocean Service keep our nautical charts accurate by reporting chart corrections, and our local squadrons participate in many other community improvement projects.

One of the main goals of USPS is “boating safety through education” - we believe that an educated boater is a safer boater. In addition to its public education program, USPS teaches a series of outstanding courses that cover advanced seamanship, navigational techniques, and boat handling, maintenance, and enhancement topics. These courses are taught by local experienced instructors.

Participating both on-the-water and off with fellow members who are skilled in boating is a rewarding and enjoyable experience. On-the-water activities include cruises, rendezvous, sail races, navigation contests and even fishing derbies. Activities ashore include meetings with marine programs, parties, dinner-dances, picnics and field trips.
If you are thinking of boating in a river, lake or ocean far from home, USPS has a Port Captain program which will provide names and telephone numbers of local USPS members who know the territory. Savings on Boat Insurance is available through marine insurance companies which provide discounts to those who complete advanced boating courses.
